We
love WordPress.org as it gives us the chance to create great looking websites
in minutes. However posting Rightster hosted videos to a WordPress profile
follows a slightly different path to our standard Embeds. This is also dependent on the WordPress.org theme you have installed. Unfortunately we can't guarantee that our embed code will be compatible with all available themes and customisations.
Assuming that your theme is supported, let's run through the steps:
Step 1: The Plugin
Once logged into your WordPress.org
profile you’ll need to install a free plugin. To do this you’ll find a Plugins
section on the side menu and the option
to ‘Add New’.
You’ll then see a ‘Search’ bar and here you should search for ‘iframe’ and locate the iframe plugin provided by webvitality. You can read more about this plugin by clicking here.
Next
up press the ‘Install Now’ button and WordPress will download, unpack and
install the plugin for you.
Now
before we’re done with Step 1 just click
‘Activate Plugin’.
Step 2: The Choice
Now you’re ready to choose the video you’d love to share with your viewers. You’ll find an ‘Embed’ button beneath the video itself and clicking this will open up an Embed Code Panel with several options:
Step 3: The Video ID
Rather
than taking the full embed code this time you need to take the video ID from
the bottom left of the panel. Click ‘Copy ID’ to save this to your clipboard.
This
is a code unique to both your chosen video and your account – so needs to be
copied each time you post a new video.
Step 4: The Post
Now head back over to your WordPress
Dashboard and click ‘Add New Post’ and you’ll see the familiar editor. It’s
best to keep this on ‘Visual’ mode if possible here.
Now I’m sure you’ll see the ‘Add Media’ button here and ask ‘Isn’t a video media though?’. Fair point. This becomes clearer in the next step.
Step 5: The Code
As WordPress.org supports only a handful of official video providers you
aren’t able to use the standard ‘Video’ and ‘Media’ buttons. Instead you have
to utilise the plugin you installed in Step 1.
This allows you to post a text code into a new post and WordPress will convert this into a video stream for you.
The
code to use looks like this:
[iframe
src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0onbbx2qqow" width="100%" height="360"]
The important part for you here is the section we’ve added in red. This is the Video ID code that you copied in Step 3, and is the part of the code that tells WordPress which video you want to display and what account you used on Rightster.
You’ll need to replace this red video ID with the Rightster Video ID of your choice each time you post a new video.
Step 6: The Settings
Player
Size: In
the code below you’ll see a reference to the height of the video – this is the
size, in pixels, that your chosen video will be published as. Changing this
number will automatically change the width of the video, allowing you to
maintain the correct 16:9 aspect ratio (or shape) in your post.

Step 7: The Finishing Touches
You’re now ready to create your post, including the code, and click the ‘Publish Post’ button. Good job!
